Updating our Significance & Engagement Policy

Updating our Significance & Engagement Policy consultation is now closed.

Thank you for taking the time to make a submission.

Updating our Significance & Engagement Policy

Our Significance and Engagement Policy enables Council and its communities to identify the degree of significance attached to particular issues, proposals, assets, decisions, and activities. The policy also provides clarity around when and how the community may be engaged in the decision-making processes about different issues, assets, or other matters.

We are proposing the following changes to this policy:

  • Wording and structure changes to provide more clarity, consistency, and readability.
  • Additional wording to explain Council’s decision-making process and the place of this policy in the process.
  • Additional wording to refer to the Iwi Engagement Policy.
  • Additional wording to outline how findings on significance are documented.
  • Specifically naming the different Council Housing villages and Lagoon Farm under ‘Schedule 2: Strategic Assets’ to provide more accuracy around what is included in the policy.

You can read the draft Significance & Engagement Policy here, or view a copy at our customer service centre, 215 Hastings Street or Napier or Taradale Library. A printable version of this information can be downloaded here. Please make your submission online below.

Take a look at the proposed options, and let us know what you think by completing the submission form below before 5pm, Friday 26 April.

Option 1: Update the Significance & Engagement Policy

Under this option, the proposed changes would be made to the policy. This would result in a more accurate, clear, and consistent policy.

Option 2: Status quo: no change

Under this option, the policy would remain as it is.
