Rates Remission Policy

We have reviewed our rates remission policy and are proposing several minor changes.

We have reviewed our rates remission policy and are proposing several minor changes. This policy covers the Council’s position on situations where the Council may reduce the amount of rates owing or waive collection altogether. The overall goal of the changes to this policy is to make our system of collecting rates and applying remissions (discounts) more efficient and transparent. We are proposing to remove the existing remission for residential land in commercial or industrial areas. This section of the policy is no longer needed as our current practice is to treat these properties as residential already, meaning this section of the current policy is redundant.

We are also proposing to amend the delegation for authorising Remissions of Refuse Collection and/or Kerbside Recycling Targeted Rates. Our current policy does not specify who has the authority to sign off on applications for this remission. To provide clarity, it is proposed that the delegation for this remission be with Council’s Chief Financial Officer.
