Rates Remission Policy FAQs

A rates remission policy explains the circumstances where the Council may issue a full or partial discount of someone’s rates bill.

A rates remission is a discount applied to rates or associated penalties. A rates postponement means that the requirement to pay rates is delayed for a set timeframe.

We are proposing to remove an existing remission for residential land in commercial or industrial areas. This section is no longer needed as we already treat properties eligible for this as residential for rating purposes.

We are also proposing to be give delegation to a specific position to authorise remissions for refuse collection and kerbside recycling targeted rates. This will help make the process clearer. The delegation for this would sit with our Chief Financial Officer.

As soon as Council considers feedback and adopts the final policy (30 June 2021).
